Classical Ballet (RAD)

Classical Ballet is an essential part of a dancers technical training which forms the basis of all styles of dance.

DanceWorks is proud to offer training in the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus from Pre-Primary to Advanced Foundation.

Exams are encouraged but are optional. Grade 1 and higher exams are offered to students studying Classical Ballet at least twice a week.

Lyrical/Contemporary

Lyrical dance is centered around the classical technique but gives more freedom to the dancer through flow of the upper body.

Contemporary dance is a unique and interpretive form of dance that challenges the dancers centre of gravity and will improve their strength and power.

DanceWorks is proud to offer Lyrical & Contemporary training in one exciting open combo class that allows the students to express themselves while letting them explore different ways of moving.

As there is a large reliance on classical technique for these styles all students enrolled in Lyrical/Contemporary classes must also attend at least one Classical Ballet class per week.

Tap

Tap dance is an exciting and fun style that focuses on the movement of the feet with the use of arms to extend the floor pattern in choreography. The rhythmical patterns use varying amounts of force to create a variety of percussive sounds.

DanceWorks is proud to offer training in the Australian Teachers of Dancing syllabus from Test 1 to Advanced. With industry professionals and former Tap Dogs, Paul Davis and Shane Preston involved in the development of the syllabus making this the style Tap that everyone loves.

Exams are encouraged but are optional.

Jazz

Jazz dance is a continually changing and evolving genre encompassing many styles such as Broadway, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Funk and Lyrical.

DanceWorks is proud to offer training in the Australian Teachers of Dancing syllabus from Test 1 to Advanced. Our Jazz classes are upbeat and energetic and include stretch and strengthening exercises, centre work and across the floor progressions in addition to dance combinations to a wide variety of music.

To excel in Jazz, DanceWorks recommend students take Classical Ballet classes.

Exams are encouraged but are optional.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a more casual, free style of dance and was derived from USA Street Dancing during the 1970’s but continues to develop with the current times and is strongly influenced by the music.

Student’s, especially Male, prefer to start with Hip Hop, before exploring other styles. This is a fun, fast paced class, perfect for all ages and abilities.
